AlphaBeasts Project

I decided to draw a creature of the Brazilian mythology. The name of the creature in Portuguese means something like “tongue cutter”, which describes not only what he does but also his favorite food.

This a fast-draw done with SketchBook Pro, I have a little more dark version to share if I finish it until tonight.

UPDATE!

I was having some fun coloring a Magritte’s cartoon before start to draw a sketch for the AlphaBeasts Project. I haven’t decided yet which creature I’ll draw for letter A!

Good news! Some new design materials have arrived (the postal service here was on strike) and, thankfully, I’ll be able to use them for the creatures series that I want to create.

Just as nothing is perfect, I’m not used to the brush pens that I’ve bought and, although they are actually great for drawing, I’ve still had to spend a bit of time practicing making the lines less shaky than I managed to do for today’s drawing. To be honest, I detest the result and the lack of control over the lines. I think that we all have our own little monster telling us that what we do isn’t good or isn’t good enough to show to other people; on the other hand, we all also have our own wise old man telling us that the best way to achieve perfection is through practice, even if we use the computer to disguise the defects later on. So there you have it, or perhaps I saw a lot of films when I was younger featuring the stereotypical Chinese wise man.

Anyhow, today the wise man has won and you can see the result above.

It was a difficult few days updating the website. Asides from having a fair amount of work on, I was also a bit unwell. Yet I am determined to follow my plan and constantly update it, even when faced with mishaps such as, for example, forgetting and mixing in a non-waterproof brush pen when I wanted to colour the design with watercolours. But I didn’t give up and I called on my digital tools for help. The result is what you see above.

I want to take part in Project Alphabeasts, designing some letters. That way I’ll have a good excuse to design exclusively for the blog.

This is a sketch of my newly-created character, as yet unnamed. I’ve done some sketches on paper but, as I’ve not had time to scan them in, I’m sharing this quick drawing that I did on SketchBook Pro. Keep an eye out for him, I like him so much that I plan on doing a series of drawings.
